About

Curated by Charlotte-based artist and teacher Carla Aaron-Lopez, Local/Street 2023 features works by more than 60 local artists.

Local/Street 2023 is the third and final installation in a series curated by Aaron-Lopez to showcase the talent, diversity, and depth of creatives living and working in Charlotte and the Carolinas. Each of the Local Street installations has provided artists of varying professional levels, training, and styles the opportunity to present their work to a museum audience in a museum setting. Local Street III follows the momentum of the previous installations with works by more featured artists than in any previous Local Street exhibition.

The first Local Street was a pop-up installation at Mint Museum Randolph in 2021 also curated by Aaron-Lopez. Her idea was to provide space within a museum to show work by artists actively working and energizing the Carolinas, but who rarely engage with museums and museum audiences. It presented artists of all ranges of professional levels, ethnicities, and training. The pop-up was originally planned to be a one-night show, but due to its popularity in the community and hardwork of the artists involved, it was extended for two weeks.

The one-week exhibition will kick off with an opening celebration November 12, 2023 in the MINT5pace at Mint Museum Uptown.
