As the exclusive creator of some of the most celebrated awards, including the American Music Award, Golden Globe, and Juno, Society Awards presents this unprecedented exhibition that offers a glimpse of some of the most renowned and widely televised awards in history. See the meticulous designs of more than 150 custom-sculptured awards — many of which are recognized as cultural symbols and pop art icons.

Society Awards, based in Charlotte, has created custom awards for MTV, The Recording Academy, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Academy of Country Music, Billboard, YouTube, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), NBC’s “The Voice,” BET, ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” iheartradio, among numerous others.

Behind each award and collaboration is a story. Award design inspiration can come from significant works of the past or through artist collaboration, such as the 40th anniversary MTV Video Music Award collaboration with Kehinde Wiley. The special version is only the third in VMA history designed by an outside artist and the first by an African American artist. It includes botanical vines wrapped around the moon person’s legs and arms — a motif also used in some of Wiley’s current portraiture work.

“While many of the entertainment and famous awards are only ever seen by their recipients, or through your television, there are icons, artwork, and masterpieces that represent the pinnacle of achievement in every industry. We want to share the breadth of that cultural experience with everyone, and showcase the art representing these milestones. You might find something unexpected!” — David Moritz, CEO, Society Awards
