The Lavagem Celebration in Charlotte, NC is a four-day cultural festival that honors African-Brazilian, Indigenous (Caboclos), and African diasporic traditions through dance, music, community gatherings, and educational workshops. Inspired by the historic Lavagem do Bonfim in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, a community event that symbolizes renewal and unity, the celebration brings together master artists, scholars, and community members to share embodied cultural practices. Through performances, processions, and participatory classes, the event provides community fellowships and cultural exchange while celebrating ancestral knowledge and the living traditions of the African diaspora.
