Docents of the Mint
Docents of The Mint Museum, the volunteer members of the Learning & Engagement department, lead tours and devote time and professional expertise to help visitors understand and enjoy works in the museum collections, the buildings and the special exhibitions.
A thorough training program held in weekly sessions prepares new docents with teaching skills and helps develop their knowledge of aesthetics and the Mint’s collection. Lectures by staff, curators and artists are supplemented by assigned reading, workshops, observation of tours, presentation of practice tours and continuing education meetings.
Mint Docents are known for their excellence. Their enthusiasm for art and their interest in visitors endow the museum with spirit and warmth. As Mint representatives, they are trained and evaluated by professional standards.

Mint Museum Docents are trained to provide a multi-sensory experience for all that will assist in making meaningful connections to the works of art on display. During guided tours, Docents will provide visual descriptions of the works of art and encourage visitors to reflect on what they might smell, feel, and hear in works. Select exhibitions will also include touch objects from our study collection. ‘
