David Stuempfle grew up in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and honed his skills as a potter in Tennessee, Wisconsin, as well as Asia. When he relocated to North Carolina, he worked first for M. L. Owens Pottery and Jugtown Pottery, before building his own kiln in 1992. He specializes in salt-glazed stoneware.
