The first Ferris wheel debuted at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, so in honor of the Mint's new World's Fairs-themed exhibition, the museum will introduce Charlotte to a first-of-its-kind experience: A Ferris wheel ride in uptown Charlotte! The wheel will be open to the public, on Levine Avenue of the Arts beside Mint Museum Uptown, from 4 p.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 and from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, September 22 in honor of the opening weekend of Inventing the Modern World: Decorative Arts at the World's Fairs, 1851-1939. Rides are $5 per person - or FREE if you are wearing an exhibition admission sticker from the Mint! For Saturday evening, that means participating in the exhibition's preview celebration; on Sunday, it means joining our special members-only hours or the Mint's Sunday Fun Day! (Must have a ticket to the preview celebration for exhibition admission on Saturday; non-members can see the exhibition from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. Not a member? Join now!)
