Celebrate young creatives in this installation showcasing talented students from 27 counties in the Mid-Carolina region in North and South Carolina.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have an impressive legacy dating back to 1923. They have grown to become the longest-running, most prestigious program for creative teens in the U.S. and the nation’s largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. A noteworthy roster of past winners includes Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, Joyce Carol Oates, Stephen King, and John Updike.

The Mid-Carolina Region of the Scholastic Art Awards is administered by the College of Arts + Architecture at UNC Charlotte.

Congratulations to the 2026 winners!

Submissions of works of art to the Mid-Carolina Region Scholastic Awards are evaluated in the categories of architecture and industrial design, ceramics and glass, comic art, design, digital art, drawing and illustration, editorial cartoon, expanded projects, fashion, film and animation, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and art portfolio. The entries are classified according to media, then sorted by grade level (middle school and high school).

“When I entered the Scholastic competition, I didn’t know what to expect; I didn’t know if anyone would appreciate my art. When I found out that two of my pieces won Gold Keys and would be displayed at The Mint Museum, I couldn’t believe it! When I took my first steps into the gallery it was like pure magic. Seeing what my peers had created was truly inspiring. Realizing I was a part of it was a moment I will never forget.”
