DESCRIPTION:Charlotte Garden Club’s annual Art in the Garden Tour returns!  The two-day self-guided tour explores seven private gardens graciously opening their gates to the public. \nLocated in neighborhoods from Eastover to Ballantyne\, each garden showcases its unique blend of garden designs. Attendees can walk through carefully curated gardens at their own pace.  The tour is a testament to the creativity and passion of the dedicated gardeners who have nurtured these hidden gems. A list of gardens will be available on the Charlotte Garden Club website in early April. Adding to the experience\, each garden will feature a talented artist. From nature-inspired ceramics to vibrant paintings\, guests can see the intersection between horticulture and art! \nTickets: \nTickets for the Art in the Garden Tour are available beginning the first week of April. Purchase tickets. \n\nAdvance/Early-bird tickets: $40 for the public/$35 for Charlotte Garden Club members and Mint members\nTour day purchase: $45 for the public/$40 for Charlotte Garden Club members and Mint members\nAges 17 and younger admitted free\, but no strollers permitted.\n\nAdditional information: \n\nThe tour will be held RAIN OR SHINE.\nAttendees are encouraged to wear casual attire and flat-heeled shoes\, as some gardens may have stone steps.\nDogs are not allowed in consideration of the gardens and other attendees.

SUMMARY:Artist Rowland Ricketts presents Invisible Blue
DESCRIPTION:Artist Rowland Ricketts will discuss his work\, including growing\, processing\, and dyeing with indigo within the context of the dye’s materiality and global history.  Special emphasis will be placed on recent works that make palpable the invisible aspects of the color’s creation\, as well as the invisible histories and forces that lie below the surface of this globally revered dye. \nRickett’s work Untitled\, Noren is on view in the exhibition Craft Across Continents on Level 3 at Mint Museum Uptown. \nAbout the artist \nRowland Ricketts utilizes natural dyes and historical processes to create contemporary textiles that span art and design. Trained in indigo farming and dyeing in Japan\, Rowland received his master’s of fine art from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2005 and is a professor in Indiana University’s Eskenazi School of Art\, Architecture + Design. His work has been exhibited at the Textile Museum in Washington\, D.C.\, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston\, the Seattle Art Museum\, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum Renwick Gallery. Ricketts is a recipient of a United States Artists Fellowship and a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship.

Help us inspire a new generation of artists\, art enthusiasts\, and leaders in our community. \nThis event is for patrons 21 years of age or older. \n  \nTickets will be sold online beginning on March 15th with Early Bird prices starting at $45 for YAM members and $55 for nonmembers. \nThe price for both will increase by $10 after April 5th. DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exclusive tour of Objects of Affection: Jewelry by Robert Ebendorf from the Porter • Price Collection with Rebecca Elliot\, assistant curator of craft\, design\, and fashion and curator of Objects of Affection at Mint Museum Randolph. \nTrained in traditional gold- and silversmithing\, Ebendorf made his name in the 1960s by handcrafting jewelry using found objects ranging from vintage photographs and newspapers to animal bones\, plastic toys\, and more. The exhibition features jewelry\, objects\, and works on paper by Ebendorf as well as faculty and graduates of the jewelry and metal design program at East Carolina University\, which Ebendorf chaired from 1997 to 2016. Most of the exhibition is drawn from the Mint Museum’s Porter • Price Collection\, assembled by Ron Porter and Joe Price of Columbia\, SC.

DESCRIPTION:Members enjoy a presentation and walking tour of Shinichi Sawada: Agents of Clay with Jen Sudul Edwards\, Ph.D.\, Chief Curator & Curator of Contemporary Art. \nShinichi Sawada is a Japanese ceramic artist whose training began in 2000 with the Nakayoshi Fukushikai Welfare Association through a program aimed at assisting neurodivergent individuals in finding employment and fostering independence. SUMMARY:Objects of Affection panel discussion with artist Robert Ebendorf
DESCRIPTION:Join Robert Ebendorf\, Ron Porter\, Joe Price\, and curator Rebecca Elliot for a discussion of Ebendorf’s jewelry and the experience of collecting it. Ebendorf will describe his development from a midcentury-modernist metalsmith to an artist who creates collages and jewelry using found objects. Porter and Price will share how they built a collection of hundreds of works by Ebendorf and other contemporary jewelry artists. \n  \nAbout the artist: \nRobert Ebendorf was born and raised in Kansas and earned Bachelor of Fine Arts (1961) and Master of Fine Arts (1963) degrees from the University of Kansas. He received further training in metalsmithing in Norway through a Fulbright Fellowship (1963–64) and a Tiffany Foundation Grant (1966–67). Ebendorf was a professor of metalsmithing at Stetson University (DeLand\, Florida\, 1964–67)\, the University of Georgia-Athens (1967–71)\, the State University of New York at New Paltz (1971–89)\, and finally East Carolina University (1997–2016). He has also taught hundreds of jewelry and found-object assemblage workshops across the United States and abroad. Ebendorf has received numerous awards\, including induction into the National Metalsmiths Hall of Fame (2004)\, a Master of the Medium award from the James Renwick Alliance (2005)\, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of North American Goldsmiths (2014).

With photography  as a source\, he often pairs his subjects with found objects\, evoking personal memories\, ancestral connections\, and the collective American past. Lovell’s work is held in the Whitney Museum of American Art\, The Metropolitan Museum of Art\, Brooklyn Museum\, Smithsonian American Art Museum\, Museum of Modern Art\, High Museum of Art\, and The Mint Museum. He has received numerous awards\, including a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant\,” an American Academy in Rome Residency\, and a Joan Mitchell Foundation Award Grant.
