SUMMARY:Opening Weekend for Coined in the South: 2024
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy free museum admission December 14 and 15 at Mint Museum Uptown for the opening celebration of Coined in the South: 2024. \nThis exhibition aims to bridge the gap between museums\, galleries\, and studios by showcasing thought-provoking works by the emerging artists living or working in the Southern United States. The name Coined in the South refers to both The Mint Museum’s origins as the first branch of the U.S. Mint\, as well as the act of inventing. Many of the works selected reflect on personal narratives and cultural histories. The exhibition transcends any singular aesthetic\, theme\, or medium\, striving to mirror the rich diversity and creative spirit of the Southern arts community. \n

SUMMARY:Members-Only Tour | Ever Present: Romare Bearden and Music
DESCRIPTION:Members enjoy a tour of Ever Present: Romare Bearden and Music\, led by Mint Museum docents. This selection of Bearden’s work is drawn from The Mint Museum’s holdings\, highlighting the many ways Bearden explored musical subjects. From his earliest paintings\, such as Folk Musicians (1942\, Myron Kunin Collection of American Art)\, to some of his final works\, like the Jazz series of prints of the early 1980s; a massive mosaic of jazz musicians he created in Baltimore in 1983\, titled Baltimore Uproar; and his 1986 collage Guitar Magic\, music was a recurring theme in Romare Bearden’s art throughout his career. \nJoin us on December 14th at Mint Uptown at 2:00 PM! \nNot a member?
