Mint President and CEO, and Caravaggio | Revolution curator, Todd Herman, PhD, discusses the life of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio—known simply as Caravaggio. Dubbed the “bad boy of art,” Caravaggio lived with a swagger and carried a sword he wasn’t afraid to use. Despite the chaos that chased him from city to city, Caravaggio never stopped painting.
His dramatic realism spread across Italy and eventually throughout Western Europe, reshaping the future of art. Remarkably, he achieved all this in just two decades, producing only a few dozen paintings before his untimely death at the age of 38.
