    ROMARE BEARDEN: SOUTHERN RECOLLECTIONS (CATALOG)

Dr. Kathleen V. Jameson, President & CEO

“I love everything in the shop but especially the books and other merchandise about Romare Bearden. Having a permanent gallery of his works at our uptown location and with the new Bearden Park so close to the Mint, it’s wonderful to have merchandise related to his art and life.“

    Paperback: $44.95  |  Hardcover: $44.95

  • Bead-For-Life-Necklace-230px

    Recycled Paper Necklaces

  • Sandrine-Giraud-Necklance-230px

    Necklace (Sandrine Giraud, Paris)

  • Savoy-Glass-230px

    Savoy Vase

Brian Gallagher, Curator of Decorative Arts

“My favorite object in the Museum Shop right now is the Savoy Vase by Alvar Aalto. I love this object, because it is such a testament to the timelessness of great design. Although Aalto, one of the leading figures in Finnish design of the twentieth century, debuted the vase at the 1937 international exposition in Paris, it has remained so popular that it continues to be sold in fine shops today!”

    Various sizes: $65-$175

  • Carolina-Snowflake-230px

    Carolina Snowflake

Cheryl Palmer, Director of Learning & Engagement

“It’s a great ornament or nice just hanging in a window at wintertime. I love that it is three dimensions and not flat. It’s elegant but simple, based on traditional basket weaving techniques, and handmade by North Carolina artist Billie Ruth Sudduth.”

    Small: $18.50 | Large: $30

  • ARTrageous-Adventure-Book-230px

    Arlo’s ARTrangeous Adventure!

    Leslie Strauss, Family Programs Coordinator

“As the family programs coordinator, a mother, and a child at heart, I’m naturally drawn to the children’s books in the shops. This hilarious, interactive book challenges the 'stuffy' old museum image, with a message that a visit to the art museum is as playful and creative as the viewer’s imagination! Children, grandparents, moms and dads, and everyone in between will enjoy flipping the 50 flaps in this clever and colorful book by David La Rochelle.”

    $14.95

  • Geci-Glass-230px

Glass made by North Carolina artist John Geci

    Teri Licari, Sales Associate

“The bright, flat, circular vases have gorgeous colors and yet are still translucent. Their unusual geometric shape makes a simple but sleek statement. My favorite is the emerald green one. John’s smaller ones have a graceful curving line. The fishnet effect of contracting color makes my eye wrap around the vase to enjoy both the shape and the colors.”

Available in various shapes and sizes: $112-$425

  • John-Ransmeier-Nesting-Bowls-230px

    Five-piece Nesting Bowl Set

    Rita Schumaker, Master Teacher

“I really like the set of mixing bowls by North Carolina artist John Ransmeier because of the proportion and scale as well as the design and function of the work. The combination of the interior glaze with the outside stain of this piece works beautifully. This set is lovely and has a lot of attention to detail. I would be pleased for Santa to put this under my tree.”

    $245

  • Knit-Gourd-Birds-230px

    Knit Birds

    Midge Zimmerman, Sales Associate

“I really enjoy the bird ornaments that are knit in a variety of colorful yarn. The knit birds run a close second to the small gourd bird ornaments from Peru. They’re nicely engraved and painted with a cute beak added onto the plump little fella.”

    Knit Bird: $9.50 | Gourd Bird: $12.50

  • Rossellini-necklace-230px

Necklaces by Carola Hiersemann-Eckrodt, Stuttgart, Germany

    Bennett Rich, Special Events Assistant

“I am always looking for interesting and unusual accessories and the Mint Museum Shops never disappoint! These necklaces have it all – beautiful colors, quality styling, and a unique look. It would jazz up a little black dress, or add some sparkle to jeans and a T-shirt. Wear it with the coordinating earrings or simple hoops.”

  • African-Angels-230px

    African Angels

    Connie Grant, Accountant

    $7.50 and $9.50

  • Magnatiles-230px

    Magna-Tiles

Cynthia Moreno, Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning

“Classic, flexible and ultra-durable, Magna-Tiles are totally amazing and beautiful with their clear jewel-like colors. Each tile has cool magnetics embedded in each tile and the well-constructed pieces will last for years and years. Magna-Tiles (also featured in the Mint's Lewis Family Gallery) are on my toy ‘hall of fame’ for great building toys that inspire spatial creativity and collaboration between children. The tiles are truly timeless because a child can create something new each and every time they build with them.”

    Sets of 32, 48, or 100 pieces | $51.50, $74.50, or $120
