From 26 July through 12 August from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, the public is invited to watch internationally renowned bamboo artist and Ikebana master, Tetsunori Kawana, create Passages: Green Wall on the lawn of Mint Museum Randolph for the Mint Museum of Craft + Design’s Project Ten Ten Ten.

Trained by Hiroshi Teshigahara, former director of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in Tokyo, Tetsunori Kawana has taught his craft around the world for over thirty years. The Sogetsu School, founded in 1927, expanded the definition of Ikebana by encouraging personal style in individual creations while maintaining traditional principles, a philosophy that Kawana has carried through to his bamboo installations. He has completed site-specific bamboo commissions in Japan, Russia, the United States, and Australia.

For Project Ten Ten Ten, Kawana and community volunteers will create Passages: Green Wall, a 20 x 20 x 82 foot passageway. Constructed of straight and split Madake bamboo, the installation will provide a passage for visitors to travel through. The artist hopes that visitors will leave the installation with a sense of well-being and connectedness to the natural cycle of life.

On 14 August, from 1:00 - 5:00 PM
The Mint Museum Randolph will host a FREE Community Day

to publicly unveil Passages: Green Wall. Demonstrations will include a Japanese Tea Ceremony, Ikebana floral design, Taiko Japanese drumming, Japanese music, and more.
