Alice Goes to Washington

Carol Gentithes (American, n.d. - present)

The title of this sculpture is inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (1832-1898), and a decal of Alice based on an illustration by John Tenniel (1820-1914), illustrator for the first edition of Carroll’s work, adorns the sculpture’s belly.

The sculpture is further decorated with decals by Carol Gentithes of many contemporary political and public figures, including Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, as well as Jay Leno, Katie Couric, Martha Stewart, and others. Gentithes lets the viewer decide how to interpret her work.
