Daniel Johnston began an apprenticeship in 1997 with Pittsboro potter, Mark Hewitt, from whom he learned not only the craft of throwing on the wheel, but the perspective gained by digging and mixing his own clay and glazes. He later apprenticed in Thailand before moving back to Seagrove, where he built his own studio and kiln in 2003.
