Mayumi Sarai finds inspiration in the natural world. To create works like Beast she begins by collecting discarded tree branches. Using a hammer and chisel Sarai then carves the branches into rounded ball-like forms and gathers them into distinctive groupings. She states, I use wood for my sculpture, yet I dont intend to emphasize the natural beauty of the material. Instead, I want to challenge and transform the material into something very hand-made.
