Gentleman's Coat

circa 1790

Unknown Maker (, - present)

Fashionable gentlemen of the 18th century frequently indulged in luxurious displays of dress. This coat was, in all likelihood, the product of one of many embroidery studios that thrived in Paris. The sumptuous needlework, rich colors and cut velvet aptly illustrate the extravagance of the Rococo era (1720-1780) in Europe.
