Chickering & Sons (US, 1823 - present)

Chickering & Sons, the oldest piano firm in the United States, was founded by Jonas Chickering in 1823. In 1837 he revolutionized grand pianos by creating the first full iron plate which made possible the sonorous grands of today. He also invented a deflection of the strings in 1834 and the over stringing of bass strings directly above the most resonant part of teh sournd board by 1848. Around 1852, his three sons joined the firm which is the recipient of over 200 awards and medals worldwide.
