A. V. Smith began potting at the age of fifteen and attended Wingate University to study ceramics. He worked at Pinehurst Pottery in 1978, then partnered with Charlie Lisk until Lisk moved to Hickory in 1982. Smith specializes in traditional forms associated with the Catawba Valley and Seagrove.
