circa 1880s

(, - present)

Within corsets, metal busks (long, narrow strips) created a front closure with the back joined by long laces that were pulled tight to reduce the size of the wearer's waist. A wide selection of corset designs included wedding corsets, stay-less corsets for sleeping, riding corsets with elastic at the hips, as well as corsets made to be worn while singing, bathing at the beach, and dancing. Maternity corsets and nursing corsets were also made as were corsets designed for little girls and boys.
