Covered Potpourri Vase

circa 1755-1760

Longton Hall porcelain factory (Staffordshire, England, circa 1749 - 1760)

This elaborate vase held potpourri. The lid is pierced, but its holes are hidden by the profusion of applied
flowers, presumably in order to heighten the verisimilitude for the viewer, who would detect a floral
fragrance emanating from the vase without being aware of the potpourri within.
