Figure of Guanyin

Chelsea porcelain factory, attributed to (London, England, Circa 1745 - 1769)

Guanyin was the Buddhist goddess of mercy. From the late 16th century, figures of Guanyin were produced in great numbers at the kilns in Dehua in southeast China. Chelsea probably based its figure on a seated Dehua figure of Guanyin made between 1650 and 1700.
