The Art of Mokume Gane: Patterning in Metal

Learn mokume gane patterning. This process manipulates multilayered billets of different colored metals to create patterns that resemble wood or smoke, similar to Damascus style metalworking. The billets are forged, twisted and gauged to produce the amazing patterns. Forging, soldering and riveting techniques will be explored. Beginning to Advanced level.

Meet the Instructor: Wayne Werner is a third generation metalsmith from Baltimore. He specializes in cold-forging precious metals and has won many awards including the World Gold Council’s Gold Distinction award and MJSA Vision award for Mokume Gane. He has studied metal work in Italy, Egypt, Java and Bali. A former instructor at the Fuji Studio in Florence, Italy, he is an adjunct faculty member at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
