In coordination with the William Ivey Long’s lecture, Smithsonian magazine Museum Day Live! , and the dedication of renowned Artist Richard Hunt’s sculpted work Spiral Odyssey at Romare Bearden Park, the Mint will pay tribute to Hunt and Romare Bearden with two jazz sets of finger-snapping, toe-tapping compositions at noon with the Jazz Arts Initiative featuring professional and student musicians.
Following the performances, venture into the Mint's Bearden Gallery to view the Odysseus Series as well as the installation John Biggers: Wheels in Wheels. The neighboring Gantt Center is also offering free admission and looks at works by Bearden in its Instill & Inspire exhibition.
