Débora Arango and Frida Kahlo used their art to interpret the social, religious and political realities of their countries with an uncensored sensitivity and sensibility. Davidson College professor Dr. Magdalena Maiz-Peña will discuss pioneering these Latin American women artists/activists from the turbulent years of the 1920s-1950s. She will explore the politics of the human form, and the dissident visual narratives in their work. Dr. Maiz-Peña is an award-winning Professor of Spanish, and she is working on a book project on urban spaces, gender and cultural production in Mexico 1920-1950.
