The Year of the Woman - Two Queens: Queen Charlotte and Jazz Great Ella Fitzgerald

Wednesday, April 19, 6:30- 8 p.m. | UPTOWN

Saluting Queen Charlotte with her portrait at the Mint Uptown by Ken Aptekar, we also celebrate the 100th birthday of the Queen of Jazz Ella Fitzgerald who is remembered for such hits as My Funny Valentine, Summertime, and Blue Skies. Following the concert, guests can visit the contemporary art galleries to view Aptekar’s Charlotte's Charlotte and the installation John Biggers: Wheels in Wheels, which focuses on empowered and working women, families, and tradition.

Jazz Vocalist Nicci Canada will perform some of Fitzgerald’s most memorable hits with the NC Jazz Quartet. This mini-concert will last 40 minutes and guests can visit the galleries following the program.
