The Mint Museum Uptown
The Mint Museum Uptown
On 1 October, we will celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Mint Museum Uptown, a milestone in this institution's distinguished history. The exciting 24-hour opening will begin with a 5:00 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of our glorious new building, which was designed by Machado and Silvetti Associates of Boston. The Mint Museum Uptown is located at 500 South Tryon Street, in the heart of the new Levine Center for the Arts.
From our 1936 conception as North Carolina's first art museum to today, the Mint has been dedicated to sharing and promoting art to audiences from around the world. This commitment to engaging exhibitions and programs will continue at our highly-anticipated new location. The Mint Museum Uptown will feature two floors dedicated to art from the Mint Museum of Craft + Design and the Mint Museum of Art, as well as natinal and international traveling exhibitions. The five-story facility also includes the interactive Lewis Family Gallery, café, gift shop, auditorium, special events spaces, and a rooftop terrace that offers gorgeous views of Charlotte's skyline.
We are planning exciting exhibitions and programs for the entire community. In addition to permanent collection galleries devoted to Craft + Design, American, Contemporary and European art, our inaugural exhibitions, Contemporary British Studio Ceramics: The Grainer Collection (1 October 2010 - 13 March 2011) and New Visions: Contemporary Masterworks from the Bank of America Collection (1 October 2010 - 17 April 2011) will feature an international selection of major works of art. Related educational programs for children, families and adults alike will continue to engage and excite our visitors.
The Mint Museum Randolph will continue to play an integral role in our community. Permanent collection galleries will house our renowned Art of the Ancient Americas, Decorative Arts, European Art, and Historic Costume and Fashionable Dress collections.
If you are not already a member, patron, volunteer or friend of The Mint Museum, I encourage you to join and become a part of this exciting new chapter in our history. I am thrilled to join the family of The Mint Museum, and I look forward to seeing you soon.
