Expansion

In Center City     The Mint Museum Uptown

Welcome

The Mint Museum is presently involved in a major expansion project: the construction of a new 145,000-square-foot facility in uptown Charlotte and the reinstallation of the historic Mint Museum Randolph. Scheduled to open in October 2010, the new facility will house important collections of American Art, Contemporary Art and Craft + Design. The Mint Museum Uptown will be part of the new Duke Energy Cultural Campus, located at the corner of First and South Tryon Streets in the heart of Charlotte’s business district. In addition to the Mint, the cultural campus will include other notable visual and performing arts organizations, including the Betchler Museum of Modern Art, the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts and Culture and the Knight Theater the home of the North Carolina Dance Theatre.

Following the opening of the uptown location, collections at the Randolph Road location will be reinstalled with a fresh new vision. The Mint Museum Randolph galleries will then focus on the Mint’s superb Decorative Arts Collection, Art of the Ancient Americas, and the Historic Costume and Fashionable Dress collections.

We welcome your questions and comments about our expansion. To share feedback or to schedule a Mint speaker to discuss our expansion at your next event, please contact Phil Kline, executive director, by e-mail or by phone at 704/337-2027.

Sincerely,
Phil Kline
