Lonnie Vigil (b. 1949)

Created: 1990s
Materials:Micaceous Earthenware

This jar took one and a half years to create.  The National Museum of the American Indian wanted it for their collection, but the artist preferred that it come to North Carolina for local artists to experience this pottery tradition. The assymetrical neck and black fire clouds on this jar recall the remains of a blown-out volcano with its partial cone intact and pumice and ash spilling over the surrounding environment. Nambe.

Promised Gift of Gretchen and Nelson Grice.
