An innovative undertaking, Contemporary, Cool and Collected offers a broad and insightful introduction to the art of our time. Drawing from collections within a 360-mile radius of Charlotte, this exhibition provides the public with rare access to exceptional works of contemporary art held within private collections. More than 20 individuals who live with and are passionate about contemporary art have generously made their treasures available to the Mint Museum of Art for this groundbreaking exhibition.
Notably, the exhibition marks the first time in The Mint Museums’ history that a broad range of contemporary works from private collections have been showcased within the premier exhibition galleries at the Mint Museum of Art. (The Mint has presented works from collections of traditional works of art, including past Carolina Collects exhibitions.)
Contemporary, Cool and Collected boldly illustrates how contemporary art has evolved over the past 40 years. Many of the artists included in the exhibition are well-known; others are emerging, but are considered to be at the forefront of visual thinking. Curator of Contemporary Art Carla Hanzal has guided the evolution of this ambitious project, which encompasses 72 works of art by 61 artists.
