One reason pottery-making is one of the richest and most highly regarded craft traditions in North Carolina is that “throwing pots” is so often a family business in the state. The art of forming, glazing, and firing clay objects has been passed down over the years from one generation to another. The exhibition features more than 30 examples of pots by the the Craven family.
The Cravens have been potting in Randolph and Moore Counties in North Carolina for more than 200 years. The pieces represent four generations of work by the Cravens from 1850 to 1990. They include large utilitarian jars and jugs, as well as teapots and vases.
